Mary Katherine Tusa presents a donation from the Krewe of Shangri-La to Vicki Weeks, Executive Director of Belle Reve and Abbey Gleichenhaus, Director of Social Services.

The Mystic Krewe of Shangri-La held their 2007 Coronation Brunch at the Monteleone Hotel in December. The returning court from 2006 continues their reign in 2007 due to the cancellation of the ball during the last carnival season. Like many Mardi Gras krewes, most of the members of Shangri-La lost their homes in the hurricane. “We were able to put on our parade for the people of New Orleans but we had to postpone the ball until this year” says Mary Katherine Tusa, Captain and Founder of the Krewe.

During the brunch, the Captain of Shangri- La Mary Katherine Tusa presented Vicki Weeks, Executive Director of Belle Reve , a residence for families living with HIV with a $6000 donation for their continued services to the community keeping Shangri-La’s tradition of supporting local agencies.

Shangri-La also announced that Chris Owens will be the 2007 Grand Marshall of the 34rd Shangri-La parade which rolls on Saturday February 10 and will be followed by their Supper Dance at the Hilton Hotel. For the first time, Shangri-La will honor their Grand Marshall with a “Royal Stroll” on the day prior to the parade. The krewe will stroll in the French Quarter accompanied by a band and end at Chris Owen’s Club on Bourbon Street for a reception and royal performance for the court and friends.

the Queen's float as an Honor Guard to her

that she has negotiated a multi year contract ewith the famous marching band!
