Dear Friends of Shangri-La and Lovers of Mardi Gras:

There is little more that can be said about Shangri-La other than over the past 35 years "we have done it all" from Mardi Gras revelry to Katrina-cleanup to helping our special charities. Along the way, we have made many friends and built lifelong friendships. Now, we are like the Phoenix --- we will rise with a new beginning as "The Shangri-La Social Club" with an awesome and flawless FRENCH QUARTER STROLL. Our royalty (the Queen, her Duchesses and their entourage) will ride in wonderful carriages. There will be many surprises along the way with our Stroll and the Strollers.

Because of our present economic situation, we asked the New Orleans City Council to grant a special request to allow us a years' vacancy from the streets as we regroup for an outstanding 2010 parade. In the purposed Council amendment, we are asking that, in this or future year, any Mardi Gras parade organization needing time to regroup, be allowed one year for this purpose. We also are recommending that during this period, organizations will continue to pay the City's permit.

Until we roll in 2010, I invite you to join in Shangri-La's new beginning. It is guaranteed to provide a memorable and fun-filled 2009 Valentine's Day in the world-famous New Orleans French Quarter.
